Where I Live Development

200,000+ newspaper articles all from a single web portal

Where I Live is the online aggregator for all of the community and suburban news mastheads published by News Limited Community Newspapers. Funke was contracted to implement the complex business logic around the ExpressionEngine CMS.

Funke developers worked in house at News Limited, collaborating with designers, technical leads and product managers to produce a state of the art web portal. Funke proactively worked with the News Limited team to identify project and technology risks with recommendations to support the overall projects success.

Funke developed the websites user interface using W3C & WCAG 1.0 compliant XHTML markup, CSS and JavaScript. The jQuery JavaScript framework was used to enhance the UI and decrease development time.

The ExpressionEngine CMS was a base requirement for the project, and Funke were asked to configure the CMS and develop multiple plugins, extensions and modules in PHP to achieve the desired outcome – an aggregated news website that is responsible for delivering over 200,000 news articles to over 50 local and community newspaper sub-sites.

During work on this project, Funke actively contributed to the ExpressionEngine community and to the News Digital Media internal code repository and development guidelines.
